Dear Mayor Bibb: Camping at Edgewater Park

My name is Georgio Sabino III and I am a citizen and advocate for camping in the city limits, especially at Edgewater park. I am writing to you to propose a new initiative that would allow families to camp at the park with heightened levels of police and ranger protection.

Camping is a wonderful activity that has many benefits for the youth and fathers in our community. According to a study by the American Camp Association, camping can help children develop social skills, self-confidence, resilience, and environmental awareness. It can also reduce stress and improve mental health. For fathers and their children, camping can provide a unique opportunity to bond and spend quality time together. A survey by Fatherly.com found that 83% of dads said camping helped them connect with their kids more than any other activity. Camping can also teach children valuable life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and responsibility. Edgewater park is an ideal location for camping in the city limits. It has a beautiful lakefront view, a dog and swim beach, a boat ramp, a fishing pier, picnic areas and grills, and a rentable pavilion. It also has easy access to public transportation and nearby attractions.

However, Edgewater park currently does not allow camping in the city limits. This means that many families miss out on the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and bond with one another. I believe that this is a loss for our community and our city. That is why I am proposing that you consider allowing camping at Edgewater park with heightened levels of police and ranger protection. This would ensure that families can camp safely and comfortably without fear of violence or crime. It would also create a positive image for our city as a place that values nature and family.

I suggest that you start by allowing camping on weekdays only but then have one or two weekends a year for a weekend. This would avoid conflicts with other events or activities at the park on weekends. It would also cater to families who have busy schedules on weekends with sports, church activities, or other commitments.

I hope that you will review my proposal and see the potential benefits of camping at Edgewater park for our community. I would love to meet with you or other representatives from your office to discuss this idea further. You can contact me at 216 256 7018 or gis@case.edu.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Georgio Sabino III
