“When I Hear Jill Sing” By Gregory Mills-El Bey

Aretha Franklin is the queen of soul, Mary J. Blige is the queen of Hip-Hop; so that makes Jill Scott, the reigning queen of Neo-Soul.  To hear Scott sing is like, anticipating hearing the angelic soprano in the church choir that the entire congregation encourages to pursue a record deal!  To hear Scott sing is like waiting to hear the birds in the morning!

Looking into the brown eyes of 32-year-old Scott, is like looking into the souls of her    Harlem Renaissance ancestors, who intended to create music that generations would enjoy.  The life music that Scott creates is suitable for the entire family to listen to.  No matter your religious affiliations, cultural preference, everyone can enjoy Scott’s sounds and message.  When Scott’s music is being played you don’t have to worry about the parental advisory that the music labels are forced to put on some artists CD cases.

The Sugar Water Festival: Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah and Jill Scott. The Sugar Water Festival: Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah and Jill Scott.

Scott’s latest project “Beautifully Human Words and Sounds Vol. II,” is her third album that solidifies Scott as a songstress/diva who doesn’t have to show off her what her mama gave her (flesh) to sell albums; nor does Scott has to apologize for her thick frame in order to be accepted by the mainstream!

“It doesn’t really matter to me who you love, as long as you are loving.  The problem is it doesn’t seem like anybody’s loving sisters anymore.  We are so out of style. What happened?” said Scott in an Essence Magazine interview.  Fortunately, for Scott’s fans and many women who take on a similar frame and frame of mind; Scott is helping to get those sisters to be loved again!

Scott, a North Philadelphia native has added to her artistic resume with appearances on the UPN sitcom Girlfriends and a role in the Showtime movie Cave dwellers, costarring Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick; not bad for a woman who doesn’t fit that Jennifer Lopez Halle Berry mold.

Weather Scott realizes it or not, Scott has become a positive example for all women and for the Holistic lifestyle.  To witness Scott’s demeanor on stage and off reminds you of that girl in high school that everyone knew and respected, due to the way she made others feel.  Scott’s music is very much needed in a society that has been forced feed to admire gangsters and thugs.

The music industry is a lot like a fickle significant other whom is self consumed in them and who lives by the model ‘what have you done fore me lately.’  However, with Scott’s approach to creating music, admires can wait for a quality project much like music fans did with Sade’s eight year hiatus from the music industry.  Scott croons an angelic melody that has lyrics of inspiration, that’s why fans can wait for a quality project such as Beautifully Human Words and Sounds Vol II.

With hits like: Living My Life like its Golden….a subliminal message that weighs heavily on the cerebella and ones subconscious mind; are messages that the music industry needs.     Just as the generation X and the new echo boomer generation hears negative stories and messages of being a gangster.   Scott is extremely versatile, because if you see one of her live performances you will witness this Neo-Soul diva perform opera.  Scott also represents those diamonds in the rough in ‘hoods’ across the country that just need a chance to be heard.

Scott’s music is internationally accepted and brings balance to the universe; and her holistic appeal is the type of music that helps create and sustain life.

A wedding planner[1] is a professional who assists with the design, planning and management of a client’s wedding.  Weddings are significant events in people’s lives and as such, couples are often willing to spend considerable sums of money to ensure that their weddings are well-organized.[2] Wedding planners are often used by couples who work long hours and have little spare time available for sourcing and managing wedding venues and wedding suppliers.  Professional wedding planners are based worldwide but the industry is largest in the USA, the UK and Western Europe.[3][4] Various wedding planning courses are available to those who wish to pursue the career.[5]  Planners generally charge either a percentage of the total wedding cost, which can range from $20,000 to $2 million in relatively affluent communities in USA,

Wedding photography is the photography of activities relating to weddings. It encompasses photographs of the couple before marriage (for announcements, portrait displays, or thank you cards) as well as coverage of the wedding and reception (sometimes referred to as the wedding breakfast in non-US countries).  –Wiki

It’s the Smile (Georgio Sabino III) by Skyline A.K.A. John “Sky” Davison

To know Georgio  Sabino III is a kin to being good friend with a enigma.  A hidden social stigma that many I’ve come across have ,but few use to their advantage.  It’s that smile.  It’s that smile that says “I know a secret you don’t…yet.”  That’s the difference I see in Georgio Sabino III, owner and proud founder of GS3 Studios.  He is a man with more than just a secret, but a vision; a vision for anyone willing to take the risk of listening, then considering, then perhaps puitting to action some of this vision into pratice in owe’s own life.  If it fits, fine.  If not then perhaps pass the knowledge on to someone else.  Maybe they can use it.

Photography by Omari Abijah Souza, 2020 Photography by Omari Abijah Souza

What is the vision, you ask?  Well, from my own artist’s eye, I see the vision as one of the success for everyone with a will and burning desire to create be it through the visual arts, such as painting or photography(, his Speciality), but sound , touch, movement  etc as well.  The vision begins with teaching; a passing of tourch if you will.  His vision for himself as a teacher just recently began with his enrollment in CWRU with strict intentions on earning  an advanced degree in addition to the BFA earned in…from Kent State University.  With this begins his journey onward toward bringing to fruition a vision that one day may serve a blue print  for finding one’s own personal creative genius… Dad 759 AKA John “Sky” Davison “Nameen” A.K.A. WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER SPEAK UP by Amanda Duffy

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER SPEAK UP and Give You The Real Deal… Article by: Amanda Duffy Being a photographer can be one of the most rewarding jobs. It is the artisans in each of us to know when to feel… YES this is the moment!! And snap the shutter. However one man or woman with a camera can never be in 2 places at once. Photography is all about the moment, The details and the preservation of time. As we always prefer to photograph weddings with 2 “shooters. In our case, We do not charge for two professionals to be at your event. We honestly just always prefer to work this way at a wedding or large event. Sometimes brides want to save a little money or feel that it is too obtrusive for more than one photographer to be present on the wedding day.

Amanda Duffy GS3 Photography Team by Christopher Yoshito, GS3 Wedding Photography is a multi-media design firm that individually designs personal sessions and packages for weddings, corporate, fashion and family photography, and other multi-media art for private and corporate collections. We do have (special rates) for small events, parties and even small wedding celebrations. But consider this: The second photographer offers another unique point of view throughout the entire day that you would not have had photographed if there would have only been one. When the magical wedding day comes. Our team will photograph the moments of preparation from hair, nails, rings, flowers, bow ties and cufflinks. We capture the beauty of your day as you say your sacred vows and exchange your rings to each other. It is always rewarding to hear a bride say… I look so beautiful in that photo. Because after all that is just what a bride is on her wedding day. We capture photos in formal settings between the ceremony and reception. We capture candids in a photojournalistic style through the duration of the day. Too many times, brides fall for something trendy in photography. It is critical that these images stand the test of time and are valued for each following generation to come. Trends are fun but rarely last! As it is very important not to “date” the images with styles or backgrounds. We are artist but wedding journalists. We are unique and we are here to preserve your moment. We photograph with a classic shooting style, and we do not manipulate and over edit photos in photoshop. However editing is important. It is simply not over done. You should expect to spend between $2,000 and $8,000 for any decent wedding photography. And superb wedding photography is just what we deliver. We offer engagement sessions. Often times it does not have to be accomplished at the very moment of your engagement. However it is nice to add a photo of the lovely couple to a wedding announcement / invitation. As you may even want Thank you cards after the wedding with your wedding portrait printed on the card. Engagement sessions increase the confidence and comfort level of the bride and groom in front of the camera and allow the bride and groom to practice having their photo taken in a fun, no-stakes atmosphere. We are fun! And we make sure we capture you in a classic way.

Amanda Duffy Wedding Photo Amanda Duffy Wedding Photo

Ultimately, an engagement session will let the bride and groom see why the photographer might tell them to do something funny, such as “whisper in her ear and make her laugh” or kiss her on her cheek. ——?? Naturally this will lead to wedding day comfort and trust in the photographer. As we always wish to capture the real people on the other side of the camera lens. Traditional wedding photography has become something anyone can imagine in the mind at any time. Those photos usually illustrated a group of people standing up, close together. Wedding photography is not all about getting all the people who participated at the wedding in one photo. Wedding photography is about capturing emotions, feelings, and joyful moments in photos, but this can be done only if the photographer is a person who relates well with people and can capture their essence easily. For example capturing the emotions of a father who sees his daughter leaving home at another man’s arm is quite something to remember. Wedding photography should not use only colors; it should also be done in black and white. A black and white photo will stimulate the imagination of those who look at it; it will be like a remembering of old times when people has a more simple life and more time for dreaming. For obtaining a good black and white wedding photography the photographer has to possess certain skills with lighting and shadows in order to make the photo outstanding, just as color does. Colored wedding photography is needed too. This type of photo will illustrate later the beautiful array of style of the wedding party. It will bring sweet memories on how the wedding party felt. How to book your wedding: Book as far in advance as you can. Nothing is more frustrating than choosing a wedding photographer and then finding out that they booked out your date a week prior. This is especially important when there is travel required. We always require a small deposit to save the date. Let the photographer know before the wedding if there are certain photos you don’t like. It can be anything such as ‘I don’t like the photos you took of us not smiling’ or ‘I don’t like wide-angle close-ups; they make us look weird and fat.’ It totally throws off a photographer’s creative approach when a bride spills her feelings while we are in the zone. Communicating is a key element when we only have a short time to capture a fast moving event such as a wedding. It is always best for us to also understand family. Your family may have guests that do not wish to be photographed together and or divorced and so on. It is very important that we know this at the time of booking and planning so we can save hard feelings. The stress of finding all the prints, books and wall portraits does not need to be at the top of your list. As a couple finding the right photographer and getting the show on the road is honestly the first step. Until you see your images it is often difficult to decide what it is that you will want to order.

Artists at 1900 Exhibit Bucks The Trend Of Economic Hard Times by Maria Gatmaytan

RE: Artists at 1900 Exhibit Bucks The Trend Of Economic Hard Times

GS3 Banner Art, Fashion & Wedding

CLEVELAND – While many Americans may look to the future with dubious uncertainty about their financial future, for area artists the issues of enough resources for housing, food and other basics are an ongoing way of life that are no different now than before the latest economic crisis.

In spite of these tough times, resident artist Georgio Sabino III and 15 of a collaborative group, The Artists at 1900, will have their works on exhibit at the Wooltex Gallery of the Tower Press Building at 1900 Superior Avenue in Cleveland during the weekend of May 16-17, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

“It’s kind of interesting what’s happening [with the economy],” notes artist and entrepreneur Georgio Sabino III. “We [artists] didn’t really lose a lot, because we didn’t have anything to begin with… all we have is our art…”

Sabino will have more than his art during that weekend. He will have completed his master’s degree in art education from Case Western Reserve University and participate in the commencement activities with his niece, Paige Smith, who also will graduate with her bachelor’s degree in nutrition.

According to a December 2008 report by the regional Community Partnership for Arts and Culture, “From Rust Belt to Artist Belt: Challenges and Opportunities in Rust Belt Cities”, despite a struggling regional economy, artists have much to offer towards revitalization efforts. The assets that artists can offer include: migration to, and reconsideration of, inner cities; economic impact; a boost to property values; sweat equity; engaged citizenry; civic vitality; and, youth development and educational enrichment.

The latter is of special interest to Sabino, who hails from a large family and a bevy of youthful friends and relatives. Sabino particularly sees and feels the need to nurture young people to persevere towards a better future by getting a good education. In this regard, the CPAC report emphasizes “The need for an educated and creative workforce has never been greater than in the current economic era.”

Sabino’s first hand realization of this need to become a role model and to encourage youths stems from his own personal history as an African-American male of mixed ethnic (Creole) heritage and many learning challenges. In describing his birthright, he stated, “My momma was French Indonesian and Spanish, and my daddy African-American and Native American. But most everyone who looks at me sees just another Black man in America trying to make it…”

Having grown up in a range of living situations from the upper-middle class lifestyle of affluent suburbs, as well as being in middle class rural ‘small town USA’ and poorer urban neighborhoods, Sabino’s sense of the disparities in America between issues of race, class, access and privilege have been acutely observed. He credits his seventh grade art teacher with opening his mind to the possibilities that art could afford in expanding his world.

After graduating from the Kent State University Fine Art program in 1999, Sabino partnered with a friend to operate and sell their respective fashion lines at their own Soho boutique Soul Fire. He also had a fashion show at the Puck Building in New York City and other venues. Since then, Sabino’s other life experiences have encompassed work in corporate, celebrity and fashion photography; sales and marketing; community art education, voluntarism and mentoring; and substitute teaching in the Cleveland Heights-University Heights School District.

During his graduate studies at Case, Sabino compared his own learning process with that of students now impacted by the No Child Left Behind Act, from which the primary thematic influence of his master’s art thesis developed. Sabino’s exhibit will include this triptych symbolizing the experience of being a Black student in the American educational system. Sabino’s paintings reflect a lifetime of perseverance and the subsequent achievement of his educational goals to date.

One of Sabino’s mentors and contemporary artist Bruce Conforti observes, “The city of Cleveland should be looking forward to seeing the works of an emerging talented artist like Georgio. I believe in the saying, ‘The cream always rises to the top.’ Artists have to get out there and get seen, and people have to do their due diligence. In that regard, it doesn’t matter what the economy is. Good art sells and besides, it’s [art is] a good investment.”

Other artists whose work will be featured include: Anna Arnold, Robert Banks, Cushmere Bell, Bruce Biro, Danny Carver, Michael Greenwald, Mario Kujawski, Krisztina Lazar, Mike Levy, Billy Nainiger, Rachel Truitt, Hector Vega, Sequoia Versillee, Bob Walls and Jerome White. Sugar Water Gives Strength to the Wise by: Will Napoli

Article by: Will Napoli                                     Sugar Water Gives Strength to the Wise

September 6, 2005

Earthmans@yahoo.com

In March of this year, Georgio Sabino III had an opportunity to meet and photograph Jill Scott while she appeared at the State Theatre.  A year earlier he had shot Erykah Badu at her show in the same venue.  Scott was so taken by the energetic, smiling Sabino who has photographed hundreds of celebrities from all fields of note that she invited him to photograph the Sugar Water Festival where she would be performing alongside Queen Latifah and Erykah Badu.  Sabino knows a good gig when it surfaces so he agreed to take the metropolis-hopping, night-shooting, beaty, big, beautiful job.

Traveling with the band on the 20-city tour, Sabino was treated to the best amenities and an inside look at this powerful enterprise concocted by Latifah but owned in equal parts by the triumphant triumvirate.  These award-winning songstresses are icons in the industry and ever-rising markers in the progress of creative, entrepreneurial African American women.  Sugar Water attendee Jeffri Epps in Atlanta pointed out, “You’re getting to see three women each of whom could easily have carried the show on her own.”  Sabino found them compelling and unbelievably in touch from the very start.

Sugar Water Tour by GS3 Sugar Water Tour by GS3

In Columbia, Maryland, Latifah’s people were in the crowd and it made for a special evening under the stars.  In fact, all the shows were at outdoors arenas as much to celebrate the summer as provide the widest possible audience.  Their alternatively tough and tender tones were sent out into the world and up to the heavens.  Meanwhile, Sabino was busy capturing the moments in photos that he would send off to the tour’s promotions department.  As powerful and in charge as Latifah and her two partners are with ownership of the tour, they are equally astute in delegating duties to allow them to relax and enjoy the experience.  It’s work, but it’s joyous work.

The first to arrive on site and the last to leave, Sabino is in charge of getting the shots: the ladies stepping off their personal tour buses, the roadies setting up the stage, backstage, on stage, the crowd, the sets, the finale, the wrap up, heading out to the next gig.  In Atlanta, festival attendee Robert Arrington, Jr. had a chance to see Sabino at work and was impressed by his equal attention to getting great shots of the audience as well as the performers.  On his days off, Sabino rests, thankful that the celebratory bliss these women exude is such that his work is also joyous work.  From 7 to 11 PM on the nights of the shows, thousands get to experience the feeling coursing through Sabino like an electric meal.

Floetry was probably about the best pick for an opening act as could be made.  Their contrasting styles of lyrical soul and percussive spoken word exemplify the unison of separate models of womanly empowerment in a moment of art that spans traditions and emotions.  They encompass Mother Earth and make her sound like a little girl leading the choir or leading a band of street soldiers.  Its no wonder they get standing ovations even before the headliners hit the stage.

Queen Latifah gave two performances in one all on her own as she changed up her jazz and soul selections from “The Dana Owens Album” and went back to where it started for her professionally with Hip Hop blazing through numerous selections in her allotted time.  That would prove to be a major theme throughout the shows: elegant, powerful ladies with range.  These divas turn barriers into bookmarks as they each sing from a fat book of songs.  Latifah strode off stage through the crowd with her finale, “U.N.I.T.Y.” and slapped hands to stress the point.

Queen Latifah by GS3 Queen Latifah by GS3

Jill Scott took her time with her songs.  She stretched half as many songs as Latifah sang into elegant studies of the human voice.  By the time she got to “Whatever” she was enticing the audience with her sultry seductions enough to put them in a frenzy.  Then she finished strong, belting out “He Loves Me.”

Erykah Badu delivered her rare blends in the final set starting light and heading into “Danger” where she trailed away from the accompaniment on an a capella excursion that made the case for her status as a modern diva.  Then she returned to playfulness in her finish with “Tyrone.”

As couples in the audience took in breaths to remind themselves of where their individual bodies were in relation to the new unity of themselves and the world reborn in the night’s raptus, the three stars joined on stage to sing “Never Too Much” in remembrance of Luther Vandross and reminder that it’s true.  There’s never too much love, whether it’s the love of singing to the next town or the love of providing community service when the proceeds get put to use.

Sabino is back in town, having just covered the Don King Showtime fight card at the Gund arena.  He’s also busy with Models-at-1900.com looking for the right young woman to sponsor in spring boarding a new career.  There’s never too much work, but he’s going to take a break soon.  Not because he’s worn out, but because he has to focus on how best he can help his family in Pascagoula, Mississippi, as they try to rebuild their lives after hurricane Katrina.  “Sabino” means wise and his family comes from Pascagoula, but it may be no coincidence that Georgio Sabino III has recently been energized by three fertile souls and become awash in deep thoughts in the songs of his generation.

Spice of Life: Georgio Sabino III By:Maria Gatmaytan

Spice of Life: Georgio Sabino III By: Maria Gatmaytan

The Greek orator and politician Demosthenes once said “Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises”. More than 500 years later, who would have thought that artist Georgio Sabino III (GS3) would be fulfilling these very words.

If variety is the spice of life, then GS3 is the hottest spice you will find among the artists of New York City and Cleveland’s cultural scene. Variety and versatility is what distinguishes this 42-year-old from the average painter, photographer or designer. Sabino engages in all media to expose his keen eye to rare raw beauty.

As an artist following his passion, he spends every minute of his waking life making opportunities and experiences happen such as photographing the 44th inauguration of President-elect Barrack Obama.

Georgio Sabino III is a fashion designer, photographer and professional artist of multi-media. As the second youngest of 10 children, Sabino began drawing and painting since the age of five years old. “As I reminisce, it’s been my pleasure to receive family influences” said Sabino.

GS3 Fashion Illustration GS3 Fashion Illustration

His early influences were shaped, in part, by the musical and artistic preferences of other family members, the works of M.C. Escher and Mondrian, along with his involvement in the 1980’s world of punk rock (including the early years of the Cure, the Smith and Bauhaus) and Hip Hop like U.F.T.O, Grand Master Flash & Melle Mel, and Run DMC,

Skateboarding culture and “all that childhood stuff you grow up with, that stays with you, y’know…especially the music” shaped his views about art and broadened his exposure to various cultures, ideas and other ways of looking at the world. By 7th grade, Sabino knew that he wanted to pursue the visual and textile arts as a career.

A 1999 graduate of Kent State University, Sabino’s bachelor of fine arts degree is specialized in fashion design and sculpture. He also gained additional training at the Cleveland Institute of Art and through a variety of life experiences, commonly known across the board as the school of hard knocks. But currently GS3 is one semester away from graduating from Case Western Reserve University Art Education program. “Its been an enlightening experience, to want to educate the new (art) minds of tomorrow, but a passionate struggle to gain the pedagogic wisdom to serve the community.”

An eclectic artist of painting, photography and fashion, Sabino remains unlimited by the conventional approach of singular mastery in only one of the creative arts, and instead chooses to work with diverse media. His goals, although idealistic to some, appear attainable to him. “I want my own skyscrapers,” he casually stated when asked to what extent he would like his art to advance.

“Personally, I don’t see why you have to limit yourself to one thing in the arts. If you believe and trust in your art, you can apply it in your life in so many ways. For example, in medicine I learned that there was a need to redesign a fabric that could be used in hospitals, that was both absorbent of fluids on the outside and able to repel liquid on the inside,” he said to illustrate his point.

“I relate everything to the way I think, behave and how I use the canvas. I like working with silk because it has that quality of being very soft to [the] touch. It’s what people [clients] want to feel next to their skin…” he says.

Armed with an ambitious spirit and entrepreneurial drive, Sabino established “Soul Fire” a fashion boutique in Soho, New York, which specialized in couture wear; before moving to Cleveland to attend graduate school at Case Western Reserve University, where he will pursue a master’s degree in art education.

In sharing his love of the arts, Sabino already has taught courses at the Cleveland School of the Arts, the Virginia Marti College of Fashion Design and Ursuline College. He also conducts private instruction in the visual arts, consultation in fashion and photography, and is available for guest lectures. “I would love to have the level of sophistication obtain to teach,” he noted.

Georgio Sabino III Georgio Sabino III

“My palette, to me, is not just [about] what I want to do, but also how to advance and/or put it into its next level. For example, an artist and a doctor share a common goal – to help people who need healing. My world is the elements and principles of art such as colors shapes, and space. If I can spark someone’s day by producing a great color to enhance, a beautiful picture you created, or adding something nice to a person’s vision in conversation [view/seggestion of art], then why not share your view with the world” said Sabino.

If art mimics life, then Georgio Sabino III is just like his generational predecessor, contemporary artist and author Stephen Nachmanovitch, wose philosophy is: “Creative work is play. It is free speculation using materials of one’s chosen form.” Except in this case, Sabino does not limit himself to only one chosen form of media within the visual arts.
